I have been chosen as a featured artist by the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce. Work will be on display until July. Link
This weekend, starting Friday April 3, I will have a couple of paintings at Unspoken Borders’ “The Ecologies of Inequality” Conference at the University of Pennsylvania. The work will be in Penn School of Design’s Lower Gallery. If you are interested in the future of design on race, space and politics more information regarding the conference can be found at design.upenn.edu/unspokenborders09/schedule.htm.
I will have two works in The Plastic Club’s Think Green: The Ecology of our Planet exhibition. The opening reception is next Sunday, April 5, from 2-5pm. The show will run three weeks, April 5- 24.

Readers of Jimi Demetriou on the inter webs:
As some of you may have inferred, this website has been run off of my own php scirpts over the last three years. Sadly, I am beginning to phase them out. Dynamic systems are a beautiful thing, but such things are in place for reasons of convenience. It has become somewhat of a practice that I have spent more time maintaining these scripts rather then the content itself.
After some research I have decided to adopt expressionengine.com. The folks over at Ellis Lab have done a nice job on the CMS. I have been running it on my test server for the last week and seems to be a good fit.
Rooftopkitchen.com will incorporated within the same system in the coming weeks. I plan to do a follow up article on the Wordpress to EE conversion.
For now, bear with me while I transfer everything over.

A couple inches of show to hide the road.
It was the first I have seen of its ascension in many months. The sun that is. And, as the sun rose, I told myself a story. See, the great power of the mind is its the ability to lie to itself. Convince itself, propagate itself, hum gleeful bedtime stories to itself. Without this we would be illustrious observers and nearly nothing more.

To observe is not to appreciate the patterns in which the white heavens fall over the landscape; the sun diminishing the amble and digressing stories of the evening.

The clouds fell last night, and they are still falling this morning. But, there is still enough red in the sky for a sailors warning. As to the story you may wonder, well it was rather boring. Almost as much as that strained singular rhyme scheme.

A note for an investigation on garbage.
Does the removal of certain materials in landfills and similar waste management facilitates affect the other materials in the facility; mostly rate of decomposition? For example, do the end products of decomposed paper goods effect the change in decomposition in other materials, as in certain plastics? Are there companion planting methods of decay? If so, do recycling practices limit these relationships or enable them to prosper?

The Millcreek Tavern Nov 7, 08. 7pm.
I am going to have a few pieces in a group art show at The Millcreek Tavern here in West Philly this Friday, November 7th. This is the collective’s premier show and will be of some interest. If your in the neighborhood, come on down. The show starts at seven, live music (Sailboat, Gentleman Loser and the Cognitive Dissidents, Cortez Cortez and The Indobox) starts at nine.
I have uploaded two recent paintings titled Connecting and The Awakening.
I have uploaded two recent paintings titled Connecting and The Remembering. Both were done a couple months ago -and if you follow me on flickr at all than perhaps you’ve seen them there- but finally got around to uploaded them on the site.

Along with my web arrangements, my house has undergone some change as well. The studio is opening up some and should allow better work flow. I have already started a few more pieces. Hope everyone is doing well.

It’s been a couple of years, but I’m still alive and well. Things around here should be a little cleaned up within the week (hopefully I have the time). Thanks your patience. Lots of new stuff in the works. I may even outsource the CMS, but we will see. Would like to finish/add to the current scripts I’ve developed for this site but I really do not have the time, as much as I detest the excuse. par
